Something is Killing the Children Vol. 3 by James Tynion IV REVIEW

Started: 18/12/21

Finished: 19/12/21

Spoilers: No

Two things I recently discovered about this series. One, it's going to be made into a Netflix show. And two, there's going to be a volume 4.

I'm pretty stoked about both these facts. This is an awesome graphic novel series with the potential to go in many different directions, including spin-offs. (which already exist in The House of Slaughter.)

Volume 3 concludes the story arc that's been running through so far. If I didn't already know there will be a fourth volume, I may even have guessed this was the end. A strong, solid ending that brings closure but also hints at more to come. The perfect kind of conclusion is one where the door is left a little bit open, and this volume certainly does that. Not every ending is always a happy ending, but the ending here is satisfying and I'll easily be reading the next one.

I really loved delving deeper into Erica's past and the not-so-heroic Order of St George for whom she works. It creates this striking contrast that the monster hunters are the real monsters here, and there are no heroes or saviours, just corrupt organisations and their trained minions.

I think the first three volumes will perfectly make Netflix's season 1, and all I can hope is they keep it as dark and adult as the comics are. Children are dying (as the name suggests) and at times, it's brutal. I just really hope Netflix do it justice.
