This was totally wild and weird as fuck. I spend much of this comic scratching my head, wondering what was actually going on. Yet despite that, I'm oddly invested in Dream's story. I want to see what he'll do next.
I loved his sister too. Death was a joy on the page. Nothing quite like a goth chick going on about her love for Mary Poppins. That was so fun. I would love this to be a recurring joke with her, like every time she visits death she asks him about another musical he hasn't seen before. She's so plucky and fun, a real contrast to Dream. They balance each other well.
I know this is a DC comic, but I wasn't prepared for it to actually contain DC characters. The presence of Constantine, Lucifer, the Justice League, and an array of Batman villains took me completely by surprise. I wasn't expecting it and I'm not sure I liked it. It strangely pulled me out of the story as I tried to figure out where Dream and the other Endless fit within the DC universe. It was a confusing inclusion and I just hope going forward, the story will take a more independent turn and step back from existing DC properties. I think if I saw Dream chatting to Batman that would be one weird too far for me.
The artwork wasn't to my tastes. I think readers will either vibe with it or they won't. This comic is from the 80's, and it certainly feels that way base on eth art style. It has a dated comics feel to it. Maybe that works for this type of work, but it's not to my personal taste.
I'm excited to continue this series. I've heard only good things and I'd like to read a few more volumes before the Netflix show comes out.
