Injection Volume 1 by Warren Ellis REVIEW

Started: 21/11/21

Finished: 27/11/21

Spoilers: No

So this is kind of a weird one for me. Although I found it really interesting and I kept thinking about the characters, I didn't really know what the fuck they were trying to achieve.

They're all geniuses in various fields and they've come together to create some kind of super science squad to invent like, a human consciousness that lives in the internet? (I've no idea).

Why did they build this sentient Internet virus thing in the first place? I dunno. Reasons, I guess.

I've no idea how this thing, called the Injection, relates to the pixies and the musical stone from Penwith. Not a fucking clue.

Honestly couldn't explain a single thing that happened in this graphic novel. It's bewildering. Yet at the same time, I don't dislike it. I think the characters are somewhat saving this for me. I enjoyed the characters and their group dynamic. I feel they have a lot of potential and I'm almost considering getting the next volume anyway, just to see.

It's interesting to see the differences in their bearing between the present storyline and the flashbacks. They're noticeably different people, ultimately broken inside by their own scientific ambitions and the dubious things they accomplished.

However, speaking of the flashbacks, I think there were too many shoehorned in and sometimes I had to stop and figure out if what I was reading was the past or present.

I know the colour pallet changes for the flashbacks, but I still found it a little confusing at times.

The artwork is fantastic though. Loved the details in the drawing and the colour schemes. The characters were well designed and instantly recognisable in every panel.

So, in conclusion, I'll sit on this one for a while and see in a few months if I'm curious enough to buy the next volume.
