East of West Vol 2: We Are All One by Jonathan Hickman REVIEW

Started: 02/05/20

Finished: 03/05/20

Spoilers: No

A fantastic second volume. I haven’t been this excited to continue a graphic novel series since Saga.

I initially came to this party because of the Horsemen, but I’ve stuck around because of so much more. The politics have gotten deeper and darker in this volume and I’m living for it.

Death’s storyline gets more fascinating with each issue/chapter, and I absolutely love his witches, Crow and Wolf.

The artwork remains stunning with a beautiful colour pallet. That blue and orange contrast that gets used regularly is a visual feast. My eyes literally devour every bit of this comic and I want more.

The story continues to be compelling, with the introduction of a new character. Something I love about this series is how effortlessly backstory is explained. We can understand the entire history of the world or a character within a few pages with an acute understanding of what’s going on and why, and how certain characters are connected. It’s really well done.

Smart writing. That’s what it comes down to. It’s just damn smart writing.

This comic series has everything going for it, and I can’t wait to read more.
