War of the Worlds is almost one of those stories that I feel like I've grown up with. As a kid my dad used to play the Jeff Wayne album and I would listen in fascinating. It was iconic. It still is. As I read some of those more famous lines from the introduction, I couldn't help but smile There's something nostalgic about this book to me, even though I never read it until now. I enjoyed reading it for the first time, and particularly enjoyed seeing how people of the time reacted to an alien invasion. On the whole I enjoyed this book a lot. My only gripe is that the ending didn't feel believable. How could life just carry on as normal after such devastation and trauma? I would've liked to have seen some kind of rebuild process as people accept what happened to them and learn how to move on. But other than that, I generally really liked this book.
