This novella is certainly one of better ones so far and perhaps sits as my second favourite after the Tamas one.
In the Powder Mage trilogy, Taniel was one of my favourite character, and so getting to revisit him eights months before the events of book one was a lot of fun.
It's great to see he's always had that rebellious streak of disobeying orders when he thinks his commanding officers are full of it. A trait I now know he gets from his mother.
These novellas do a really fantastic job of filling in the gaps and fully fleshing out the characters, giving us a more complete picture of who they are. I only wish there would be a novella about Bo.
This is an action-packed short story with some excellent battle sequences. I believe this is also my first time seeing the Mad Lancers and I loved them. I know there is also a novella about called the Mad Lancers so I'm very keen to get to that.
All in all, a fantastic novella. A very quick read, both in size and the fact that the fast-pacing has the pages flipping in no time at all.
